Hair Products I Wouldn’t Repurchase

Haircare can really drain the wallet, especially as a curly girl. There are so many products catered to us it’s a wonder we can even make a choice on what to try. 9 times out of 10, I pick a good option. But there are those rare times that a product I’ve purchased comes with a whole lotta buyers regret. Ever wondered if a product is worth your coin? Well, that depends on your hair. I bought these, so you don’t have to. Here are my thoughts on 8 products I would not repurchase.

Ecoslay: Jello Shot

If you haven’t read my first impressions on the Jello Shot by Ecoslay, you can do sohere. The definition of this product is top-notch, and I love the hold that this gel has. I initially wasn’t impressed by this gel because of how difficult it is to apply. I am still on the fence about that, but using it on soaking wet hair does help a bit. The smell of this product is the reason why I wouldn’t repurchase. I have learned my lesson in buying products that have a scent I don’t care for. This product also provides absolutely NO moisture, so please apply a very good leave-in beforehand if you decide to use it. Retails $20 for 12 oz.

Mielle Organics: Leave-in Conditioner

I am a massive fan of Mielle Organics products, and despite the embarrassing public debacle from their founder, I still have products that I would keep in my repertoire. This leave-in, however, isn’t one of them. The packaging has caused me so much trouble, and at first, I thought that the pump issue was just a fluke. But when I bought the second bottle of this, the pump became dysfunctional as well. That in itself has made me not want to rebuy this product. The second reason is that this product doesn’t really moisturize my hair. The whole point of a leave-in is to moisturize and prep your hair for your styling products. This didn't do that for me. I love other products from this line, though, so it’s not a complete loss. Retails for $12.99.

Design Essentials: Honey Curl Forming Custard

clear jar with gray top and gray label

I originally was a huge fan of this product, and you can tell from my first impressionreview. This product actually dries my hair out and only works while functioning with other products from this line. The smell isn’t something that I can get over. In fact, it smells worse to me now after using it more than once. The product is excellent with the leave-in in this Almond and Avocado line. However, by itself, it doesn’t hold up much. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone (unless they changed the smell). This is very disappointing for me because this was my favorite product. But that’s why first impressions are first impressions. Retails for $16.99.

Mixed Chicks: Coil, Kink, and Curl Styling Cream

clear jar with orange top that says mixed chocks coil, kink, and curl styling cream on the jar

This product smells yummy, which was why I purchased it in the first place. However, the smell is all that it has going for it, in my opinion. This product wasn’t terrible, but it didn’t really have a hold for me. I used it for a wash ‘n go, a twist out, and a braid out. Although this product was moisturizing, I wasn’t all that impressed with it. I like my styling creams to have a hold. This product retails for $12.99 for 12 fl oz. I will definitely use the rest of this because it still provides my hair some moisture, but I definitely wouldn’t repurchase it.

Shea Moisture: Weightless Shampoo

Clear cylinder jar with red label with yellow letters

This product was unimpressive, but I initially bought it to wash my hair since it is lightweight. This shampoo doesn’t strip your hair and is good to use if you need to clarify your hair. I didn’t think there was anything wrong with this product; I just have better options to choose from for lightweight shampoos. Retails for $8.98 for 13 fl oz.

The Mane Choice: Sweet Oil & Honey Sealing Cream

This cream isn’t moisturizing, and that is important to note if you want to try this. It is a sealing cream, meaning that you will need to apply products that moisturize your hair before using it. There are other creams that you can buy that moisturize your hair and come with more product. Retails for $14.99 for 8 fl oz.

The Mane Choice: Sweet Oil & Honey Restorative Spray

clear spray bottle with metallic blue and purple gradient label

This 8 fl oz bottle retails for $13.99, and I do not think it was worth it. You can make your own concoction of a refreshing spray with water, a leave-in conditioner, and oil. And it’ll be cheaper. This was the most unimpressive product on this list. I like The Mane Choice, but this specific collection hasn’t gotten me like the others.

As I Am: Jamaican Black Castor Oil Smoothie

brown jar with a multi colored label with gold lettering

I liked this product, but not enough to repurchase. It is nice to use in the winter, especially for those who suffer from dry hair. I wasn’t impressed enough with this to repurchase it. But it is very moisturizing and smells very good. But I believe there are other products out there that can give you moisturizing results with definition. Retails for $10.99 for 16 oz.

These products weren’t all bad. In fact, if they were cheaper, I might even actually rebuy some of them. It is important to note that these opinions are my own and do not reflect my views of the company. These are just products that didn’t work for me, but they may work for you. As someone who does product reviews, I make sacrifices to try products so you can decide if you want to spend your money or not. Based on my thoughts, the choice is yours.

Have you ever tried these products? What did you think of them? Are there any not on this list that you would include? Let me know in the comments.
