Fall Skincare Routine

A good skincare routine doesn’t have to be hard to come by. In fact, I think having a basic cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen is a good start. That’s where I started when I first got into skincare. I am one of the unfortunate souls that still have to deal with acne during adulthood. Part of the blame is on the hormones (sometimes being a person with a uterus can suck), and the other part was that I was still eating foods I am intolerant to.

Once I cut out dairy and started tracking my cycle, I really got a grip on this whole adult acne thing. Of course, I am not cured. I won’t be until the universe decides I don’t deserve acne anymore. But I have learned how to manage it. I have adjusted my skincare routine to the season we are in, and I am excited to share my fall skincare routine with you!

Cleansers

Even if you have oily skin, I highly recommend using an oil cleanser. I have tried many, but the one that is working best for me right now is take the day off cleansing oil by Clinique ($29). I use this every day before going in with my Superfood Cleanser by Youth to the People ($36). Every Tuesday and Thursday, I cleanse with my CeraVe Acne Foaming Cream Cleanser ($11.99). This cleanser contains benzoyl peroxide, an antiseptic that can reduce the amount of acne-causing bacteria on your skin.

Benzoyl Peroxide can be drying, so let this be a warning to those with dry skin. In the fall and winter, as the temperatures drop, my skin becomes a bit dry. If you are interested in using benzoyl peroxide, then I recommend using it as a wash first. With it being in a cleanser, it’s less likely to dry you out too much since it’s not staying on the skin. I highly recommend using a rich moisturizer afterward and always wear sunscreen the next day. But y’all don’t need me to tell you that cause you wearing sunscreen every day regardless, right?!

Treatments

I have some treatments that I use to enhance my skincare routine. The one I use every day is The Inkey List

Hyaluronic Acid Serum ($7.99)

. I have a review about this item you can read

here

. The week before my period, my acne tends to flare at its worst. On that week, I opt for using my

Adapalene and Benzoyl Peroxide Gel

instead of my CeraVe Cleanser. This gel was prescribed by my doctor to help manage my acne.

I have a small sample of the daily microfoliant ($59) by Dermalogica that I have been using about once a month. This item causes a lot of purging for me, so I don’t use it that often. This can be used every day, but I have sensitive skin, which is not the case for me. There are better products to help me manage my acne while also speeding up cell turnover considering my acne issues. The daily microfoliant is a great product to use to get rid of dark spots, though.

The Laniege Lip Sleeping Mask is something I use to moisturize my lips every night before bed. I have noticed a difference in how supple my lips are with its continued use. But if you don’t want to shell out the $22 it costs for this item, you can create your own lip mask with honey and an oil of your choosing.

Moisturizers

The Chia Seed Moisture Cream by Boscia ($38) has been a long-time favorite of mine. My skin is so in love with this moisturizer it’s ridiculous! The price might be a little steep for some, but I don’t use a lot of this, so it tends to last me a couple of months. I have never really been a fan of eye creams, but I have used Sephora’s HYA Brightening Eye Cream ($17). I don’t see much brightening happening, but it does keep my eyes moisturized, so there’s a plus!

Of course, I couldn’t forget the Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen in SPF 40 ($34). This sunscreen applies clear, so there’s no white cast. My only issue is that this tends to be drying in the colder months due to its mattifying effects. This is the only sunscreen that doesn’t break me out when I use it on my face and is one of the few that doesn’t have that awful sunscreen fragrance. You know the one.

My skincare routine is constantly evolving. I have found that I really don’t need to spend a lot of money on a cleanser since it gets washed off, but there are other things I can invest in, like serums and toners. I am still experimenting with products, and over time I will find the perfect basic routine for me. For now, this will do.

What products have you been using? Any you recommend? Found any dupes? Let me know in the comments. Don’t forget to come back every day for a new blog post for #blogtober!
