5 Easy Ways to Break Bad Beauty Habits
We all have bad beauty habits that we're guilty of, whether it's not washing our face before bed or picking at our skin. But just because they're common doesn't mean they're not harmful to our skin. Just like it is important to shower each day it is just as important to properly take care of the skin on our faces. Here are 5 easy ways to break your bad beauty habits and get on the path to better skin:
1. Washing your face before bed. This one is a no-brainer, but so many of us still don't do it. Washing your face before bed gets rid of all the dirt, makeup, and pollution that's accumulated on your skin throughout the day. It also gives you a chance to check for any new blemishes or skin concerns so you can treat them accordingly.
2. Picking at your skin. We've all been guilty of this one, too. Whether you're picking at a pimple or just absent-mindedly picking at your skin, it's a bad habit that can lead to scarring and infection. If you need to pop a pimple, be sure to do it safely and sterilely with clean hands and a comedone extractor.
3. Not using a sunscreen every day. Sunscreen is an important part of any beauty routine because it protects the skin from UVA and UVB rays that can cause premature aging and skin cancer. It’s important to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher every day, even if you’re not spending long periods of time in direct sunlight.
4. Skipping exfoliation. Exfoliating your skin helps to get rid of dead skin cells, unclog pores, and brighten your complexion. It's important to do it gently, though, so as not to damage your skin. Look for an exfoliator with gentle ingredients like jojoba beads or sugar crystals.
5. Over-washing your hair. Washing your hair too often can strip it of its natural oils, leaving it dry and brittle. Aim to wash your hair every 2-3 days, or whenever it starts to look and feel oily. When you do wash it, be sure to use a gentle shampoo and conditioner.
Skincare is a huge part of personal hygiene. Believe it or not, getting into a regular routine can take you on a path to healthier skin. What habits are you trying to break?
