Insecure is set to return this October with more appearances from mirror b*tch. At the 2021 NAACP Image Awards, Issa Rae announced her thoughts on the show’s ending, which she had been contemplating since season 3. In January this year, she confirmed by quoting the announcement of Insecure’s 5th and final season.

As a fan of the show since the pilot was released back in 2016, it’s hard to watch something you love and enjoy come to an end. I’m most excited that with this ending comes a new beginning for Issa as she works on releasing other projects she’s put her heart and soul into. To honor my profound love for the show, I decided to share some of my predictions for Season 5.

Issa and Nathan

You knew this was coming, especially if you follow my live tweets on Twitter. He was able to open up to Issa about his Bipolar Disorder and why he ghosted in the first place. They have a great connection. I don’t know if they will end up in a romantic relationship for the long haul, but he will be a lifetime friend for her. That I am sure of. 💕

Molly Learns Accountability

Molly doesn’t know what she wants, but I understand why she hasn't taken the time to figure that out. She is way too worried about what everyone else does wrong to see the common denominator in all her failed relationships. Her. I am predicting that she learns this in season 5. But I hope it doesn’t take till the end for her to learn it. I think it will take Andrew refusing to get back together for it to happen. She will learn that she has to let go of control and start being accountable for herself.

Letting Lawrence Go

Issa and Lawrence have been together for a good portion of their lives. The stages in which they both should have been developing personally, they weren’t. Now they are in this new place where they can have enlightening conversations about the past without dredging up any hate or anger. I loved that. However, I think that they aren’t right for each other anymore. Issa has plans that are finally coming to fruition. She will let him go so that she doesn’t have to worry about anything else holding her back anymore.

Condola Lied

She’s not really pregnant. She just said that to get Lawrence back. Please, just let me have this. 😭

Daniel

I think Daniel is going to come back to help Issa decide what she wants. He will be a fourth in the love square going on. No, I do not think Issa will choose him, but he will just be there to make us believe that for a little bit.

Issa Chooses Herself

My last and final prediction for season 5 is that Issa will choose herself. She will forgo any romantic possibilities and take the time to be alone in her zen. She will find herself on the Black girl version of some eat, pray, love journey. But in L.A. cause she broke.

I have enjoyed Insecure with all my heart. It’s rich in culture, musical references, and the awkward Black girl moments I can relate to. This show has fulfilled every quirky, loving, and comical aspect I look for in a show. I feel lucky to have been a viewer on this journey. This show will be analyzed in ten years by the new wave of cultural writers to come. And I look forward to it.
