My friend, Joseph, recommended The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk, M.D. I read it back in February, and I read it again at the end of March. It is so good that I have been suggesting it to my family and friends.

What is the book about?

Bessel van der Kolk is a psychiatrist and trauma expert who researched how traumatic experiences affect both the mind and body. He transforms our understanding of traumatic stress and shows how it rearranges our brain mapping.

Why do you recommend this?

This book provides a foundation for those interested in understanding how traumatic experiences affect their lives and the lives of their loved ones. I had a thesaurus and a dictionary ready just in case I needed to look anything up. However, Bessel does an excellent job of making the content of this book easy to read and understand.

I have gained a lot of knowledge about how to interact with others who have experienced trauma. This book, on top of therapy, has helped me with that. Of course, I am not a professional. Unless you have the credentials, you can’t diagnose or offer professional advice to other people. But you can work to understand your own lives and how trauma has affected yours.

I am very thankful to Joseph for recommending this book to me! So I am recommending it to all of you! Have you read this? Tell me your thoughts in the comments. Do you have a book crush? Write yours in the comments below!
