Eloquent Rage & Other Books You Should Read #BlackLivesMatter

As many of you know, I am an avid reader of fiction and fantasy. It's my favorite genre. But I also read memoirs, autobiographies, and so much more.

Today, I am writing for those who want to help with the social injustices happening to the black community but have no idea where to start. If you are a reader like I am, then you can start with a book. Several books, in fact.

Reading is an active way to educate yourself on climate change, intersectional feminism, homelessness, and racial injustices. I know. One quick google search, and you'd have a bundle of information at your fingertips. Many of you have been aware for some time of systematic racism and how it affects communities of color, particularly black communities. I am here to help you out a bit.

Think of this list as a good start, but also plan on educating yourself more by listening to podcasts, speeches, activists, and conducting your own research. So if you have ever wondered what you can do to start acknowledging your own privileges, we all have them; then here is a list of books I recommend you read.

  • When they call you a terrorist: A Black Lives Matter Memoir by Patrisse Khan-Cullors

  • The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

  • So You Wanna Talk About Race by Ijeoma Olua

  • Dear Martin by Nic Stone

  • Eloquent Rage by Brittany Cooper

  • Tyler Johnson Was Here by Jay Coles

  • Me & White Supremacy by Layla F. Saad

This list is short, but remember, this is just a start. Below are links to issues you can donate to. Please share it on your platforms.

What else can you do?

If you are silent, you are complacent. If you do nothing, you are complacent. Listen to the black people around you and within the community. Listen, learn, and repeat. Knowledge is never-ending, no one is perfect, but you can do more than what you are now.
