Paper Girls is the 80's Coming of Age Show We Needed

In Paper Girls, we are taken on a wild ride through the 1980s. We follow four paper girls as they make their way through their delivery route on Halloween night, only to be thrown in the middle of a war between time-travelers. The dialogue is witty and sharp and helps push forward the emotional core of the story. The characters are three-dimensional making it easy to root for them. With Paper Girls, we finally have a coming-of-age show that feels fresh and exciting. It's the perfect blend of humor and heart, with a dash of sci-fi thrown in for good measure.

One of my favorite moments from the show was S1 Ep 5: A New Period. After some hardcore action in the previous episode, Erin realizes she needs supplies for her period. For her, it is the first of many to come, and even though she attempted to confide in her future self about the issue, she ends up going through the experience with the Paper Girls.

Despite my back and forth on Mac's personality, her shoplifting skills come in handy when Erin needs pads or tampons. The scene of all four girls trying to figure out the use of a tampon sent me toppling over in laughter. After Erin states that she quits, KJ interjects with, "I don't think you can quit your period". How right she is.

From the fashion to the music, this show takes us on a jilting ride through time in hopes of the Paper Girls returning to 1988. We watch these girls go through tough realizations and come to terms with the consequences of their future selves. It is the best queer, friendtastic, and girl power show in the age of Stranger Things. This show is a must-watch for anyone who loves sci-fi and coming-of-age stories alike. Paper Girls is the perfect blend of humor, heart, and science fiction, and I cannot recommend it enough!

With season one already being the talk of the timeline on Twitter, I am excited to see what season two has in store for us. What were your favorite moments from the show?
