Three Hairstyle Ideas for Curly Hair

Curly hair can sometimes be so thick that putting it into different styles can be hectic. However, getting creative with your natural hair is part of the fun! I sometimes find myself wearing the same two hairstyles often, so every now and then I like to switch it up and add a little spunk to my hair game. So without further or do here are three curly hairstyle ideas.

Box Braids

I personally don't know how to do my own box braids so for these I went to see a hairstylist. I found her using a website called styleseat. Her name is Erynn, and she was very kind and communicative. She listened to all my instructions about me wanting my hair parted in squares, and for my braids to not be too tight. I was pretty happy with this style and had it in for about two and a half months. She offers to redo the edges of your hair to freshen up the style as well for a small fee.

You do have to bring your own braiding hair though, and with the price of the box braids, it can be quite extensive. The set price is about $150. This style is great if you want to protect your hair from damage. It takes about five hours to install, but the payout is worth it!

Afro Puff

This is a pretty simple hairstyle, and it's easy to do. All you need is a comb or toothbrush for your edges, eco styler, hair oil, a headscarf, and a stretchy hair tie. First, and foremost you want to make sure that your hair is fully moisturized and detangled. Putting your hair into a ponytail while it's matted and dry will only cause breakage.

My hair care routine is pretty moisturizing so I don't worry about my hair getting too dry for this style. Second, you want to gently brush all your hair up to the top of your head. I add hair oil and continue to brush so that it's smooth and shiny. Third, I take my stretchy hair tie, which is more like an extra-long hairband, and wrap it around my neck. Then, I push the hairband up until it's laying across my forehead. I then push the headband up until most of my hair is sitting on top of my head in a little Afro puff. I then take my toothbrush and put some eco styler on my edges.

Sometimes I'll swoop my edges into a circular motion depending on how I'm feeling. Either way, the edges gotta be laid honey. I next set my edges by wrapping my headscarf around them for about ten minutes. And BOOM: Afro Puff.

Black Power Fro

This hairstyle is literally just a wash 'n go, however, it's different from how I normally style my wash 'n gos. To get this look I simply follow my wash routine and then proceed to style with Jamaican black castor oil. I style my hair in my face instead of doing my usual side part. (If you follow me on Instagram you know what I mean). Simple, easy, and efficient.

Trying out different hairstyles can make doing your hair fun, but never fret about it. Most days I'm just rocking my side part wash 'n go.
