5 Steps Towards Clearer Skin

Disclaimer: These steps are just tips and are not meant to take the place of advice from a licensed professional.

Our skin is a beautiful organ, but it can only take so much abuse. With life comes work, school, and social life, and while struggling to juggle all of that we can forget to take care of one of the most important parts of our body: our skin. We have whipped up seven tips for you 20-somethings to start your journey towards healthier skin.

Wash your face

This is one of the most crucial steps in ensuring that the skin on your face remains healthy. Cleansing is the first step of your routine and what you use to do so matters. You should be cleansing twice a day: morning and night.

Using lukewarm water, massage your cleanser gently in circles over your face and neck. This is like a small massage that will help with the texture and blemish issues you may have. Wash the cleanser thoroughly before going to the next step. The next step is toner or moisturizer which is just as important as the cleanser.

Moisturize

After washing your face, you should follow up with a moisturizer. However, if you are into the however many-step skincare routine that is cool too. Just remember to apply your most watery products first and thick last.

If you skip the moisturizer not only are you helping your skin age faster, but you are also setting it up to produce more oil. Regardless if your skin is oily or dry a moisturizer is a MUST. During the day you should be wearing an SPF regardless of how much melanin is in your skin.

Use a mask

There are masks that offer treatments for certain conditions such as acne, dryness, hyperpigmentation, and so on. Masks are definitely a luxury and can be substituted by just using a serum as well. We find face masks to be relaxing and helpful for some skin concerns like irritation or skin barrier maintenance.

Get in Some Movement

Exercise is not only good for the body but also for the skin. When we move our bodies, we are stimulating blood flow and allow more oxygen to reach our cells. This helps with cellular turnover which aids in the prevention of wrinkles and breakouts.

You don't have to do some rigorous workout to exercise. Anything as simple as taking a walk or cleaning your house counts. The important thing is to move your body however, that is to you.

See a Dermatologist

If you happen to have the means to see a dermatologist I highly encourage you to. They are licensed to help with skin issues and could find a solution to an underlying problem causing your skincare woes. It doesn't hurt to check; skin is their specialty, after all.

These tips are only suggestions, and they are all things I do personally. They have worked for me, and so in the hopes of giving advice, I thought I'd offer you some. Of course, certain things work for others, and others don't. Everyone's skin is different. But if you find any of these tips helpful, I'm glad I could assist you!
